TriQuint Wins GSM Filter Contract

TriQuint Semiconductor has received its first purchase order from a top-three handset manufacturer for a new Quad-Band GSM filter module designed for GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, and GSM1900.

This highly integrated module reduces the number of standard components used in a GSM phone from approximately 18 components to one integrated module. This reduction in components translates into lower system cost for customers. GSM is the largest worldwide standard for mobile phones.

To offer additional utility, TriQuint can customize the impedances to optimize the module's electrical performance for the customer's phone board. The optimized impedances also improve the electrical performance of the adjacent components. As opposed to an LTCC implementation, the utilization of a low cost laminate substrate reduces the design cycle time by 75%, increasing user flexibility and system performance.

The advantages of the Quad-Band GSM module have already been recognized through many successful tests and evaluations on multiple GSM platforms. TriQuint is forecasting high volume production in the third quarter of 2003. TriQuint expects to release additional GSM front-end modules later in 2003.

Ralph Quinsey, President and CEO, stated, "Our new product development efforts for modules are starting to produce orders. This Quad-Band GSM filter module joins the GSM power amplifier also announced today and adds to TriQuint's growing presence in the GSM/GPRS/EDGE markets."
