Singles are Warned to Choose Mobile Phones Carefully

For centuries, finding the perfect mate has been fate for some and dumb luck for others, but today finding the right match could be easier and less risky than singles might imagine.

"A mobile phone can be a first indicator of personality," said matchmaker Jennifer Donnelly of It's Just Lunch, a specialized dating service for professionals. "It can tell a little bit about their personality, their sense of style, about who they are."

Today, mobile phones speak volumes about you and your lifestyle because they are distinctly designed for work and play, and can silently tell the casual acquaintance whether you are a fashionista, a dealmaker or a trendsetter. Mobile phones as early indicators can give you - or that special someone you haven't met yet - a good reason to take the next step and make a personal connection.

"At Nokia, we realize that one size or style does not fit all," said Jennifer Temperley, Product Manager for Nokia. "That's why we design mobile phones that fit into one of six specific lifestyle categories. These categories include: fashion, classic, premium, active, expression and basic. Consumers want phones that reflect their personality and fit their lifestyle and this unique way of segmenting phones ensures that everyone can find their perfect match- both in a phone and potentially in a mate."

The challenge of finding that perfect match may seem increasingly difficult for some, but the trick could be in knowing both what you want and how to identify those traits in an individual at a very early stage in the relationship.

A recent survey of more than 8,000 singles conducted by eMode.com (the online self-assessment testing website) revealed that the type of mate singles prefer include that 44% prefer the adventurous type, 22% are looking for a dealmaker, 15% desire a trendsetter, 10% would like to date a real fashionista, and 9% are seeking a tech titan

"A mobile phone has become an accessory you carry with you all the time," said Temperley. "We choose our shoes, clothes and jewelry - so why should your phone just be a gray box? Some Nokia phones allow you to remove the Sim card, which is the computer chip that houses information like your wireless phone number and address book. You can move your Sim card from one handset to another depending on your mood or agenda. This could be very deceiving if you are looking for a dealmaker and he's carrying his weekend phone such as the Nokia 5100, which is designed to withstand the active livestyles of those that hike, bike or hang out at the beach. "

In addition to serving as a personality indicator, the mobile phone has also replaced the bar napkin and matchbook, making meeting a potential mate a "paperless" experience. Infrared, SMS and Bluetooth technology in the latest phones enable consumers to wirelessly share contact information. This virtually eliminates wrong numbers and those missed opportunities.
