SK Telecom Commissions Custom Built Antennas

The antenna supplier, SkyCross has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with South Korea's SK Telecom to develop custom-designed antennas for use in next generation CDMA phones designed for SK Telecom's networks. Under the terms of the agreement, SkyCross is the RF and antenna technology provider of choice for SK Telecom's Testbed Project -- a project that brings together SK Telecom with component vendors and handset OEMs to produce 2.5G and 3G CDMA phones for global wireless markets.

"SK Telecom was interested in a high performance, embedded RF solution that was comparable to existing external antennas," said Alan Haase, CEO of SkyCross. "Our design engineers were able to swiftly provide a custom-built, extremely small, embedded antenna that featured the robust performance SK Telecom needed."

SK Telecom launched the world's first commercial CDMA cellular phone service and today Korea's top mobile carrier claims more than 16 million subscribers. "Performance, size and speed to market were all key issues for us when we began looking at RF solutions for our new CDMA phones," said Myung Sung Lee, Vice President of SK Telecom. "After measuring our options and testing a variety of RF solutions, it became clear to us that the SkyCross antenna was the right choice."
