A new handset from Nokia is offering a dual keyboard option that flips open to reveal a QWERTY option in addition to the normal numeric keyboard. The Nokia 6800 also comes with a high-quality color display, SyncML support, email support, a stereo FM radio, Java and can send and receive multimedia messages (MMS). Operating on GSM/GPRS 900/1800 networks, shipments of the Nokia 6800 messaging device are expected to begin in first quarter 2003 in Europe, Africa and Asia.
The display image also seamlessly changes its orientation to match the horizontal layout of the keyboard. For example, users can start writing a message with the cover closed and continue after opening the cover.
"The unique design of the Nokia 6800 enables mobile professionals to be as efficient as possible while away from the office. In today's world, messaging is a cornerstone of business life and the Nokia 6800 allows people to message efficiently without any compromise in the features they have come to expect from Nokia. The full keyboard and excellent color display are ideal when users are creating text messages, multimedia messages or email," said Erik Anderson, Senior Vice President, Business Applications, Nokia Mobile Phones. "Other technology features, such as Java and SyncML, mean that users of the Nokia 6800 can have more personalized content, Java games and synchronization capabilities, making it a versatile device for both work and leisure."
The Nokia 6800 also has a mobile email client (supporting POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP) that lets users manage their email over HSCSD and GPRS networks. With SyncML, personal data such as calendars and contact information can be consistent, accessible and up-to-date. The Nokia 6800 also incorporates a mobile wallet application, which allows users to make convenient and reliable online transactions via WAP. The security module, Wireless Identity Module (WIM), enables users to digitally sign their transactions, and includes Wireless Public Key Infrastructure (WPKI) support.
