Indian Network Offers Punjabi and Hindi SMS Service

India's Spice Telecom, which operates in the Punjab region is now able to offer SMS in Punjabi and Hindi upon user request. For using this service, Spice subscribers would need to send a SMS to 555 and indicate their choice of language by typing P for Punjabi or H for Hindi followed by Punjabi/ Hindi words in English, which would be then dynamically converted to corresponding Hindi/Punjabi words and sent back to the subscriber.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Rohit Malhothra, Vice President , Sales & Marketing, Spice Telecom said, "Our latest customer surveys have revealed that subscribers experience a need for SMS in Hindi and Punjabi for communicating effectively. We have always had a very proactive approach in responding to customer needs and hence we have introduced this service for the benefit of our growing family of subscribers."

Standard SMS charges would be applicable for using this service, and it is only available on handsets that support picture messages.'"
