
Six weeks after KPN Mobile launched i-mode in the Netherlands, 85% of all users say they are satisfied with the new mobile data service. A survey revealed that 78% of users are satisfied with paid i-mode services, 86% would recommend i-mode to friends and acquaintances and 87% use i-mail in i-mode. The survey further showed that the target group is familiar with the i-mode TV commercials. The HI commercial has been nominated for the prestigious "Gouden Loekie Award" for television advertising.
Sales of i-mode are progressing as planned. Last week the milestone of 50,000 customers, of which 10,000 in the Netherlands, has been reached.
A profile has emerged of the typical i-mode customer at the present time. A majority of i-mode users are aged between 20 and 35. The current i-mode customer base consists of 82% private users and 18% business users. The data bundles of 200 KB and 1 MB are the starting point for 72% of i-mode customers while 28% have opted for larger bundles in excess of 5 MB. i-mode customers currently subscribe to an average of three services.
Since the i-mode launch, 20 new content partners have come forward. The number of i-mode services is expected to increase to 80 before the end of July 2002. Content providers setting up their own distribution channels include the Albert Heijn supermarket chain (via XL store and a website) and Radio 538 (website).'"
