TTPCommunications has announced South Korea's LG Electronics as a partner for its GPRS software. This is the fourth GPRS customer to be announced by TTPCom and brings to 20 the number of companies that have licensed its GPRS technology. TTPCom's software features in the LG-G510 GPRS handset, a clamshell phone recently launched by LGE. The LG-G510 has received design awards in both Germany and Korea and the company recently received an order to export 500,000 of the handsets to China.
LGE and TTPCom have been working together since December 2000. LGE licensed the full suite of TTPCom technology from Layer 1, through to the GSM/GPRS protocol stack and application layer including WAP and SIM Toolkit. The phone utilises hardware from two of TTPCom's silicon partners - the AD20msp430 baseband chipset from Analog Devices and the HD155128TF (B2+) radio chipset from Hitachi.
In addition to LGE the GPRS partners previously announced by TTPCom include Research in Motion Limited and Novatel Wireless, Inc, all 3 of which are shipping product commercially, and Toshiba who are developing a GPRS i-mode phone for launch later in the year.'"
