
The company already doubled its sales in 2011 to 35 million smartphones, from 15.8 million in 2011, ZTE's head of marketing, Lv Qianhao said at a briefing.
"At present, consumers can easily recognize Apple or Samsung branded smartphones," he said. "We hope consumers can also easily recognize ZTE's brand in the future."
IDC had earlier estimated that the company sold 9.5 million handsets in the fourth-quarter of last year, representing a market share of around 4.5 percent. The company is targetting a 10% market share in the USA by 2015.
The company is also looking to handset sales to help the company return to profitability after it posted its first annual loss in 17-years.
