
The list was supposed to be a neutral list of local manufacturers so that the networks could comply with legislation requiring a percentage of infrastructure equipment to be manufactured in the country. However the exclusion of both ZTE and Huawei despite having local factories lead to protests by two trade organisations.
Tthe Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) both sent letters to the Telecom Secretary R Chandrasekhar calling for the decision to be reviewed.
The dismissal of the appeal is also looking suspect as documents seen by the Economic Times suggests that the list was compiled by Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (Tema), and only includes members of that trade association.
