"We are exploring the opportunity to bring our tower business under a separate company for optimum utilisation." BSNL Chairman and Managing Director R. K. Upadhyay told PTI.
The company has issued a tender notice for consultancy services to advice on how best to proceed with the demerging of the company. BSNL has seen its profits slide in recent years as the company failed to keep up with private competitors, and posted a loss in the last financial year.
Splitting off the towers was a recommendation in a government review of the company, which suggests they have significant untapped potential to be leased out or even sold.
