HTC Wins Patent Dispute Against Apple in the UK

The Judge, Christopher Floyd also ruled that three of the patents are invalid.

The patent that the court agreed was valid related to photo management in a smarthone - but the Judge decided that HTC hadn't infringed it anyway.

The more significant ruling could be the one relating to the slide-to-unlock patent, which Apple is seeking to enforce in the USA against Samsung. A victory for HTC in the UK may help undermine Apple's argument in the US courts.

Apple declined to comment beyond a statement that competition is healthy but companies should not steal ideas from each other. HTC sad it was pleased with the outcome but regretted that the matter had come to court action.

The case is: HTC Europe Co. Ltd v Apple Inc., High Court of Justice, Chancery Division, HC11C02826
