Thai Regulator After Unused PrePay Cedits

Thailand's telecoms regulator is mulling a plan to tap unused PrePay account credits that are forfeited when a SIM card expires to boost the public telecom service fund. The move follows pressure from PrePay users who want their unused credits refunded.

Takorn Tantasit, deputy secretary-general of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said that although some users want the remaining amount back, there are some who might not bother and this could be used to develop the public service.

Around 90% of the customer base of 65.8 million are using PrePay accounts.
