Motorola is reported to be preparing to launch an iDEN based Android smartphone early next year. Due to the nature of the iDEN networks though, the phone is expected to only run mobile internet services when connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Israeli newspaper, Globes reported that local iDEN operator, Mirs Communications expects to offer the handset to its customer. Mirs Communications is currently owned by Motorola, but is understood to be up for sale.
Motorola Israel told the newspaper, "Motorola has yet to make a formal announcement about an Android product, other tan to say that the company intends to be a leading player on this platform and all technologies towards the end of the year."
