Indosat Plans $360 Million Network Expansion Expenditure

Indonesian mobile operator, Indosat has outlined plans to spend US$360 million during 2009 on expanding its network and boost service quality. The company has set a CAPEX target for 2009 of US$600 across all its network services.

"We have to prevent our existing users from switching to the competition," president director Johny Swandi Sjam told the Jakarta Post.

Indosat is 65% owned by Qatar Telecom, with the remainder listed on the local stock exchange. The government owns a 14.3% golden share which can't be touched. The funding for the CAPEX will come from a mixture of ongoing income and bank loans.

This year's capital expenditure reflects a massive decline from a year earlier when the company allocated US$1.4 billion across all its divisions.
