At the end of January, the three Hungarian mobile operators had 508,000 mobile internet subscribers and there were 424,000 SIM cards active in data transmission over the past three months, the first mobile internet flash report published by the National Communications Authority of Hungary (NHH) has revealed.
According to the report, at the end of December, when Pannon, T-Mobile and Vodafone had 12.224 million subscribers in all, the number of those also with mobile internet subscription totalled 494,000. The number of ADSL, cable modem and mobile internet subscriptions in Hungary together exceeded 2 million at the end of 2008. Users transmitted some 761,000 Gbytes of data in January following the data traffic of 651,000 Gbytes in December, while average traffic per subscriber also increased.
One subscriber downloaded or uploaded as many as 1.79 Gbytes on average in January, compared with the 1.54 Gbytes per subscriber in December.
Based on the number of subscriptions involved in data transfer, the market share of T-Mobile stood at 52.31 percent at the end of January, with Pannon and Vodafone recording a market share of 25.12 percent and 22.57 percent, respectively.
Based on the volume of traffic, T-Mobile's market share was 38.4 percent, Vodafone's share equalled 37.72 percent and Pannon had 23.88 percent of the market. Accordingly, in January the largest volume of data was transferred by the customers of T-Mobile (292,000 Gbytes), while Vodafone's customers reached a total volume of traffic of 287,000 Gbytes, and Pannon's customers transmitted 182,000 Gbytes.
In January, traffic per subscriber - calculated on the basis of subscriptions involved in data transfer - totalled 3 Gbytes in Vodafone's network, equalling 1.71 Gbytes and 1.32 Gbytes in the network of Pannon and T-Mobile, respectively.
