Ericsson Cuts 250 Jobs in USA Facility

Ericsson told staff at one of its USA based R&D centers last week that it is closing the plant with the loss of around 250 jobs. Staff were notified last Thursday of the decision, which will include a phased approach, expected to be completed by summer 2009, the company confirmed.

The plant is in Warrendale, Pittsburgh and Ericsson sold the property to a real estate firm in September for just under US$40 million.

The job cuts are part of an existing program which was announced in February which will lead to 4,000 job cuts worldwide.

Ericsson's handset joint venture, Sony Ericsson recently cut 450 staff at its US headquarters in North Carolina. A total of 2,000 jobs are expected to be cut worldwide by Sony Ericsson, in a measure which will save some US$422 million per year.
