The Philippines gained a new 3G network as Connectivity Unlimited Resource Enterprise (CURE) relaunched itself as a low-cost operator under the "Red Mobile" brand. The company was aquired by Smart Communications earlier this year.
"Consumers will enjoy the lowest per-minute rate in the country. Red Mobile allows users to place phone calls down to their very last 50-centavo load and make the most out of what they spend on prepaid credits," CURE, a subsidiary of Smart Communications, said in a statement.
The company had tried to launch an ad-funded mobile network, uMobile aimed at younger adults, but the service stopped accepting new subscribers in September pending a network upgrade to integrate its systems with Smart Communications. Customers on the ad-funded network will be offered a migration to the new Red Mobile service.
