Ethiopia, Chinese Telecom Sign over $400m Agreement

APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Ethiopian Telecommunication Corporation (ETC) and a Chinese telecommunication company, ZTE, have signed a $ 400 million agreement for the supply of 15 million wireless mobile networks in Ethiopia, media reports said here Wednesday.

The agreement for the expansion of telecommunication infrastructure in Ethiopia will begin and last for the next four or five years.

Ethiopian corporations will increase the mobile telephone coverage up to 64 per cent, while wireless telephone coverage will reach 90 per cent.

About 900,000 wireless telephone lines will be distributed to Ethiopian rural towns in the coming two years.

Currently, the number of mobile telephone users in Ethiopia is 3.5 million out of the estimated 80 million population.
