Ericsson Wins 3G Contract in Northern Cyprus

Ericsson has won a contract in Turkish Cyprus from Kuzey Kibris Turkcell - a subsidiary of Turkcell - as the sole supplier of a WCDMA/HSPA network. Under the agreement Ericsson will provide a WCDMA/HSPA network, including radio access and packet core network and the Ericsson Mobile Softswitch Solution.

The agreement also includes Ericsson's mobile backhaul solution with microwave and optical transport equipment. Ericsson will also provide professional services such as consulting and systems integration.

Daghan Fellahoglu, General Manager at Kuzey Kibris Turkcell, says: "This move will extend and upgrade our network with WCDMA/HSPA functionality, and cement our position as the leading local operator. It will also ensure our subscribers enjoy a richer communications experience, including advanced multimedia functionality and high-speed mobile broadband that enables anytime, anywhere access. We're also proud to say that KKTCell has built a unique all-IP 3G network solution that includes microwave transmission."

No financial details were provided.
