Dialog Telekom Passes Subscriber Landmark

Sri Lanka's Dialog Telekom has announced that it has signed up its 5 millionth customer - and maintains its market share of over fifty percent. Dialog has now connected a quarter of Sri LankaÃ's population, adding that "as part of a celebratory offer, the company introduced an unprecedented call charge regime through a brand new post-paid package, plus, per-second billing for its pre-paid segment through yet another package."

Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Group Chief Executive of Dialog Telekom, attributed the milestone to his companyÃ's philosophy of ‘Innovation for InclusionÃ'. "Dialog is today truly a company for all Sri Lankans, as we have aptly demonstrated by connecting with five million customers."

The company also recently said that it is ready to start expanding its network into the newly De-militarized Zones (DMZ) as soon as the government gives its approval. The government has been in a long running civil war with separatist Tamils, and the mobile operators have been restricted from offering coverage in the military front lines.

The company currently covers about 90% of the population - and around 70% of the landmass.

Based on figures from the end of June, compiled by the Mobile World database, Dialog Telekom had 51% of the local market, followed by Mobitel (19.5%), Tigo (16%) and Hutch (13.5%).
