
Cyprus based, Cytamobile-Vodafone says that it has upgraded its 3G network to support HSDPA. The geographic coverage of the Cytamobile-Vodafone network exceeds 55%, whereas the population coverage exceeds 80%.
Additionally, Cytamobile-Vodafone will be lowering the data tariff packages and plans on offer from the 1st of June 2008.
The network covers the central and greater areas of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos, the free Famagusta district and large communities such as Yeri, Tseri, Nisou, Dhali, Kokkintrimithia, Paliometocho, Peristerona, Astromeritis, Palodhia, Platres, Trimiklini, Kakopetria, Evrychou, Polis Chrysochous, Pegeia and other areas.
The operator ended the first quarter of this year with an estimated 847,000 subscribers according to figures from the Mobile World database. Of the base, some 54,000 are using the 3G network.
Earlier this year, rival operator MTN also launched a HSDPA upgrade. At present, the service is only available in the Southern Cypriot capital, Nicosia though.
