Just four months after Mexico awarded a number portability clearinghouse contract to Telcordia, the solution was successfully deployed in advance of the national July 5, 2008 go-live date. Telcordia, selected Neoris, a global business and IT consulting company, as its partner for the nationwide implementation.
La Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL), Mexico's telecommunications regulator, and the telecommunication service providers awarded the country's number portability clearinghouse contract to Telcordia in March 2008. At the core of the solution is the Telcordia Number Portability Clearinghouse, which enables landline and mobile service providers to comply with number portability mandates by serving as a central number repository and a central point to process number porting transactions.
The database administration will be managed by Neoris, Telcordia's partner in Mexico.
"Mexico's deployment of the Telcordia Number Portability Clearinghouse underscores our global leadership and ability to deliver a proven platform that can be rolled out quickly to meet tight deployment timeframes in any environment while still providing low total cost of ownership," said Richard Jacowleff, President, Interconnection Solutions, Telcordia. "Telcordia's track record with number portability around the world, combined with Neoris' experience as the largest IT consultant and system integrator in Mexico, enables us to deliver premium number portability services in the region. With the addition of this selection in Mexico, Telcordia has now been selected to deliver number portability solutions by 12 countries, serving nearly 700 million subscribers."
According to figures from the Mobile World, the country ended Q1 '08 with just over 71 million mobile subscribers - of which America Movil's Telcel has a massive 72.6% of the market.
