Almost No Interest in Number Portability in Bulgaria

Bulgaria's M-Tel has announced that only 266 of its customers have taken advantage of the mobile number portability (MNP) service to switch to another network operator. The country launched MNP one month ago. The company also said that just 418 people have ported the numbers into the M-Tel network.

The data comes up to the company’s expectations, which announced in April that does not count on MNP to increase its client’s base, nor expects a serious churn.

“The reason, because of which there is lack of interest towards number portability, is that if a certain client is unsatisfied with the services he receives, he changes the operators, regardless of whether he can change his number or not. In this sense, the clients choose us because of quality, innovations and opportunities, which the M-Tel service portfolio offers”, state Josef Vinatzer, CEO of M-Tel.

Bulgaria ended last year with some 10 million subscribers according to estimates from the Mobile World database - which represents a population penetration level of 137%. M-Tel is by far the dominant operator with a market share of nearly 5.1 million customers.
