Vodafone/Telecom Italia Get Apple's iPhone for Ten Countries

In a very short statement, Vodafone has announced that it has secured an agreement to launch Apple's iPhone in ten countries later this year.

In the statement, the company said "Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia , the Czech Republic , Egypt , Greece , Italy , India , Portugal , New Zealand , South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network."

Telecom Italia has this morning also announced that it will offer the iPhone in Italy - making the country the first to offer the handset with multiple operators.

Last week, in an equally short statement, Canada's Rogers Communications also said that it would get the iPhone "later this year". The fact that several operators have now secured the distribution deal - later this year - will only heighten expectation that they will be offering a 3G model when it is finally announced.

Currently, the iPhone is officially available in the USA (AT&T), UK (O2), Ireland (O2), Germany (T-Mobile) and France (Orange) - although unofficial sales are occurring in a large number of other countries.
