Teacher Prosecuted Over Lewd Text Messages to Minors

A former religious education teacher in Malta was sentenced to a two year suspended sentence after he was convicted of sending lewd SMSs to children. The court ordered that the 37 year old former teacher cannot be identified in order to protect the identities of his victims.

The man was accused of chatting to pupils via websites but then proceeded to send them text messages direct to their mobile phones. The messages contained sexual connotations.

The court ordered that the teacher's license should never be renewed and that the man is to be bared from institutions where minors could be present.

The prosecuting Police Inspector, Louise Calleja had said that the former teacher had cooperated with the police when caught, but was also still being investigated for other possible offenses.
