Telecoms equipment supplier, Ethrix says that it has completed the first stage of a WiMAX trial in Israel's Gush Dan region. The company, which is partnering with Alvarion in the pilot, plans to deploy fixed services only and does not wish to proceed to mobile technology for the time being.
Gush Dan is a metropolitan area including areas from both the Tel Aviv and the Central Districts of Israel. It is located on the Mediterranean coast and is the largest metropolitan area in Israel, with an estimated population of 3 million residents.
Ethrix told the local Globe newspaper that it received a permit from the Ministry of Communications a few months ago for a fixed telecommunications pilot, designed to examine the technical format for the technology platform.
Ethrix has deployed an infrastructure consisting of a central site and several endpoint sites, based on equipment from a number of manufacturers.
