Ericsson says that it will cut a total of 290 jobs in the Swedish towns of Kumla and Sundsvall. Ericsson said this is part of a previously announced cost-cutting program. Ericsson earlier this year said it would slash 4,000 jobs worldwide, 1,000 of these in Sweden, in the wake of poor results for the fourth quarter of 2007.
All 90 employees in Sundsvall will lose their jobs as the unit is to be moved to Montreal, Canada. In addition, 200 Kumla employees will be asked to voluntarily resign.
Ericsson also unveiled a programme offering voluntary resignation to some 700 employees at three other locations in Sweden.
