Alcatel-Lucent Wins US WiMAX Contract

Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Craig Wireless to build a new WiMAX network - based on the IEEE 802.16e-2005 (Rev-e) standard - in Palm Springs, California. This is the first commercial deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s WiMAX technology in North America.

Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide its end-to-end WiMAX Rev-e solution, including base stations, wireless access controllers and an operation and maintenance center (OMC). Alcatel-Lucent also will provide network design, planning, installation and optimization for end-to-end integration of the network, which will operate in the 2.5 gigahertz (GHz) spectrum band.

“The Alcatel-Lucent solution will enable us to hit the ground running in our new Palm Springs market and seize immediate opportunities to serve our customers with new mobile services and applications,” said Boyd Craig, President and CEO of Craig Wireless Systems. “Our Palm Springs customers will be able to enjoy fast, reliable connections to the Internet anywhere they live, work or play.”
