A new company being set up in Thailand to sell ringtones is to be primarily staffed by seriously disabled employees. PWD Outsource, a company aimed at employing disabled people has set up the venture which will employ 50 call centre staff to sell ringtones to customers of the Hutchison CAT mobile network by telephone and internet.
The project is being supported by the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, CDMA operator Hutchison CAT and entertainment firm, GMM Grammy.
The venture will last until the end of June and has been launched as part of a 5th anniversary campaign by the phone company. If the project is a success, there is potential to keep the 50 staff working for the company.
''Please look at us as a business venture, not a charity case,'' Ms Surapatanun Nitiyotjirachot, managing director of PWD Outsource told the Bangkok Post newspaper. ''If we succeed, we will provide job training for disabled people in other regions nationwide.
PWD Outsource Management Co was set up with the support of Hutch, which has itself trained some 50 disabled people to work in its customer care call centre.
