Paraguayan mobile operator Telecel, which operates under the Tigo brand, was due to shut down its TDMA network on January 3 and end its Tele2 service, local paper La Nación reported company general manager Miguel Blasco as saying.
The company launched four months ago a marketing campaign via text messages offering approximately 5,000 Tele2 subscribers to migrate to GSM free of charge and with free minutes and a Tigo GSM chip included.
Telecel is a unit of Luxembourg-based Millicom International Cellular.
