Argentina: Telcos Expect to Invest US$1.11bn in 2008

Argentina's largest telecommunications operators are expected to invest approximately 3.5bn pesos (US$1.11bn) in 2008 mainly in broadband and mobile network infrastructure, local newspaper Infobae reported.

Telecom Argentina plans to invest approximately 1bn pesos, the same amount as 2007, according to the report.

Telefónica de Argentina, the local unit of Spain's Telefónica, plans to invest 1.7bn pesos in 2008, earmarked for continued expansion of mobile and broadband infrastructure. In the fixed line business, TAR plans to invest 950mn pesos while for its mobile operator the company 650mn pesos will go mainly on the recently launched 3G network.

Meanwhile, CTI Móvil, the local unit of Mexico's América Móvil, expects to invest approximately 850mn pesos in 2008, according to Infobae. The operator also launched this year 3G services in the country.
