American Tower Corp has launched legal action against a former Goldman Sachs Group executive for allegedly forging an email as to make it seem to have come from American Tower CEO, James Taiclet. The lawsuit claims that Jide Zeitlin forwarded an news article published on CNN's web site in October 2006 to two of American Tower's institutional investors, manually entering the email address of James Taiclet into the website.
Mr. Zeitlin left Goldman Sachs in 2005 and later founded Independent Mobile Infrastructure, a tower firm based in India.
A spokesman for Mr. Zeitlin said, "We have no comment because we have not been served with the complaint and so our legal counsel has not had the opportunity to fully evaluate it."
The apparent abuse came to light when a recipient replied to the website alert - and the email went back to Taiclet's email address.
Formed in 1995, American Tower is an owner and operator of wireless and broadcast communications sites in North America. The company owns and operate over 23,000 sites in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
(Disclaimer - the cellular-news email alert system allows any sender email address to be used, although as with CNN - any reply would go to that address as well.)
