Five operators have prequalified to bid for 900Mhz and 450Mhz spectrum in Peru, local state news service Agencia Andina reported, citing data from the country's private investment liaison agency ProInversión.
The spectrum is intended mainly for fixed wireless telephony services.
Operators prequalified to bid for the 900Mhz band are Movistar Peru, owned by Spain's Telefónica, and Claro, the local unit of Mexico's América Móvil.
The winner of this spectrum will provide fixed wireless services in Lima and Callao province in the 894-899Mhz frequency and to the rest of the country in the 894-902Mhz and 939-947Mhz bands.
Meanwhile, for the 450Mhz band prequalified operators are Telmex Peru, Movistar and the STM-Valtron consortium. This concession will allow the operator to offer services in Lima and Callao provinces in the 452.5-457.5Mhz and 462.5-467.5Mhz frequencies.
ProInversión expects to announce the winners on December 5. The contracts cover 20-year concessions and winning operators will be required to complete expansion programs over the first three years.
