PARIS -(Dow Jones)- France Telecom, Thursday said it has obtained a fixed-mobile-Internet license in Niger. The Nigerian state said it has awarded the EUR48 million contract to a consortium led by the French former monopoly telecom operator.
"This investment fits fully in the group's development strategy in fast-growing markets and complements its important presence in East Africa," France Telecom said.
Niger has a population of around 13 million and is still underserved in the mobile market, France Telecom said.
In Kenya, France Telecom was recently named preferred bidder for a 51% stake in Telkom Kenya.
