
Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) is reported to be in talks to sell the Apple iPhone, but only if the company offers a 3G version of the handset. Sources at the company told the DigiTimes news publication that the carrier expects to sign an agreement with Apple in the first half of 2008, which also suggests that Apple has definitive plans for a 3G version of their much hyped handset.
In related news, CHT said that it expects to purchase 2.5 million handsets in 2007, with around 120,000 units, to be customized models specific to the carrier.
The company has sold some 60,000 customised handsets supplied by Windows Mobile specialist, HTC and a further 10,000 Nokia E65 handsets. The company is also reported to be in talks with Sony Ericsson to customise handsets for its network.
