MobileCard Earmarks US$20.8mn for Marketing

US mobile transactions specialist MobileCard plans to invest 40mn reais (US$20.8mn) in marketing programs in Brazil this year, newspaper Gazeta Mercantil reported.

MobileCard aims to sign up 40,000 businesses for its m-commerce platform in the next 12 months. The solution is installed at 500 points of sale in the US, according to the paper.

The marketing budget for Brazil derives mainly from two unnamed investment funds in the US.

MobileCard has a partnership with local telco CTBC and the pair plan to install the platform at 15,000 establishments by the end of the year, making the service available to 50,000 mobile phone users. MobileCard also aims to increase its Brazilian workforce to 400 from today's 40.

The m-commerce specialist also plans to offer its services in other Latin American countries such as Chile, Argentina and Ecuador in the second half of 2007."
