
Latin America and the Caribbean accounted for 14% of global purchases of WiMax equipment in the first quarter of 2007, tech news service Computerworld cited research by US research company Infonetics Research as showing.
Latin America trailed Asia-Pacific (35%), Europe, the Middle East and Africa (33%) and North America (18%), according to Infonetics Research.
Revenues from WiMax worldwide should reach US$5bn in 2010 and US$800mn in 2007. Sales of equipment for WiMax networks should grow on average 70% a year until 2010, the report said.
This year the worldwide arrival of mobile WiMax is likely to lead to a 40% drop in fixed WiMax sales, Infonetics Research reported."
