3 Ireland Launches Nationwide HSDPA Upgrade

Hutchison 3G Ireland has become the first Irish operator to upgrade its entire network to high speed broadband, offering speeds of up to 3.6 MB per seconds to its customers nationwide. From the end of January, 3's entire network was upgraded to support speeds of up to 3.6 MB per second. The 3 network covers 85% of the population.

Robert Finnegan, Managing Director, 3 commented: "We're delighted to be the first operator in Ireland to upgrade its entire network to high-speed broadband. With speeds of up to 3.6 MB per second, 3 is offering consumers the fastest mobile broadband speeds available, making 3 a credible alternative to fixed line broadband and a catalyst for the uptake of broadband services in Ireland. No other network offers faster download and browsing speeds, reinforcing 3's commitment to bringing the most advanced mobile broadband to Ireland."

On launching 3's mobile broadband service last year, Communications Minister Noel Dempsey welcomed 3's high-speed broadband launch and called upon the other operators to follow with a speedy introduction of HSDPA."
