In total Alcatel-Lucent has deployed 10 CDMA2000 networks for China Unicom across China. It expects that the EV-DO Rev. A network it installs in Macau will serve as a showcase that demonstrates the ease with which existing CDMA2000 1X networks can be upgraded.
"This win with China Unicom in Macau is significant because it shows that Alcatel-Lucent is already delivering on the promise set out during the merger," said Frederic Rose, President of Alcatel-Lucent Asia Pacific. "The company now occupies a leading position in wireless thanks to the combined assets of the former Alcatel and Lucent and the recent acquisition of UMTS access components from Nortel," he added.
This contract follows an Alcatel-Lucent EV-DO Rev. A win in New Zealand and points to the company's growing presence in the region's 3G market."
