Source Says Kyrgyztelecom Unit Gets GSM Frequencies

MOSCOW, Dec 14 (Prime-Tass) -- KT Mobile, a subsidiary of Kyrgyz state fixed-line operator Kyrgyztelecom, has received frequencies for GSM-900 and GSM-1800 mobile services, a source close to the Kyrgyz government told Prime-Tass Thursday.

Kyrgyztelecom may be privatized in 2007 and the mobile operator may be spun off as a result, the source said.

The Kyrgyz government directly holds 77.84% in Kyrgyztelecom, the Social Fund of Kyrgyzstan owns 12.51%, the company's employees own 5%, the company's management owns 1%, and the remaining 3.65% is held by other individuals.

At the present time Kyrgyzstan has three GSM mobile operators: Bimacom, Bitel and Sky Mobile. Earlier this year Bitel transferred all its assets to Sky Mobile.

As of the beginning of 2006 the mobile services subscriber base in Kyrgyzstan totaled about 560,000 people.
