New SMSC Gives Operators Path to Internet Messaging

LogicaCMG has announced the latest release of its Short Message Service Centre, the Next Generation IP SMSC, which is IMS-ready and interoperable with fixed and mobile Instant Messaging (IM) platforms.

LogicaCMG's Next Generation IP SMSC feature set includes IM interoperability, extended personalisation for users, advanced content provider support, marketing reporting and operational management.

With the advent of mobile IM, global SMS traffic growth is predicted to continue until at least 2010 and LogicaCMG's latest SMSC release caters for this by processing messages at twice the speed for a significantly reduced cost.

Future price-performance improvements are reported to be guaranteed due to the use of industry-standard Intel Itanium based multi-core processing platforms.

Henk de Boer, senior vice president, mobile messaging, at LogicaCMG, said: "As operators prepare for the convergence of networks and services, the ability to innovate and improve existing services such as SMS is crucial in order to stay ahead in this competitive environment. We are convinced that service differentiation and personalisation are key to ensure continued messaging success and our latest SMSC release is an indispensable component in this evolution."
