Sprint is launching a mobile version of Google's email service, Gmail. Google's email for mobile devices will be available to Sprint data customers at no additional charge in two forms: a new downloadable Java application and access through a WAP site. Both can be reached directly from the Sprint PCS Vision or Sprint Power Vision home page.
Once installed, users are just moments away from reading, replying to, archiving and searching through their Gmail messages. With Gmail for mobile devices, Sprint customers can even reply-by-call to people whose phone numbers are stored in their Gmail account. The application can be downloaded now on most Java-enabled Sprint phones.
"Sprint is dedicated to bringing the promise of mobility to life for our customers, and by being the first carrier to offer access to Gmail for mobile to our users directly from our mobile Web home page, we're delivering on that promise," said Paul Reddick, vice president of marketing for Sprint. "Sprint customers now have the best way to access Gmail while on the go."
For mobile phone users who don't have Java-enabled phones, Sprint will also provide easy access to the Gmail for mobile devices WAP site in the coming weeks. The WAP version offers similar Gmail functionality through Sprint phone Web browsers."
