Russia's MegaFon Subscriber Base Up 23% in January-September

MOSCOW, Oct 4 (Prime-Tass) -- The subscriber base of Russia?s third largest mobile operator MegaFon increased 23% in January-September to 28.07 million users as of October 1, the company reported Wednesday.

The monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) in April-June rose to U.S. $11.1 from $10.9 in the same period of 2005 and $9.9 in January-March, the company said. The average minutes of usage (MoU) increased to 212 minutes per month in April-June from 196 minutes in April-June 2005 and 187 minutes in January-March.

The churn rate fell to 43% in April-June from 52% in April-June 2005 and 48% in January-March, MegaFon said, adding that subscriber acquisition cost (SAC) rose to $21.5 in April-June from $20.2 in the same period of 2005 and $19.8 in January-March.

MegaFon's capital expenditures amounted to $499 million in January-June, the company said without providing comparisons. The company plans to invest about $1.2 billion in 2006, almost flat on the year, MegaFon said. In 2005 the company's capital expenditures amounted to $1.232 billion.

MegaFon is the only mobile operator in Russia that is licensed to provide its services in all 88 Russian regions.
