MOSCOW, Sep 21 (Prime-Tass) -- Russian CDMA mobile operator Sky Link has launched its network in the Kaluga Region, the company said in a press release Thursday.
The network under Sky Link brand is operated by its affiliate Kaluga Cellular Communications, Sky Link said, adding that Chinese telecom equipment producer Huawei was the equipment supplier for the network.
The network includes four base stations in Kaluga city and one base station in Obninsk, Sky Link said, adding that it planned to expand the network to three more cities in the region by the end of this year. The network capacity currently stands at 20,000 numbers.
Sky Link had 305,000 users as of January 1 and planned to increase it to about 490,000 by the end of the year.
Sky Link was set up in July 2003 to promote the IMT-MC-450 standard, or CDMA2000 for the 450MHz frequency band, in Russia. Following the network launch in the Kaluga Region, Sky Link operates in 24 Russian regions and has a license that covers 65 of Russia?s 89 regions where 104 million people, or 72% of Russia?s total population, reside.
