Russia's MegaFon User Base Reaches 5 Mln in Volga Area

MOSCOW, Sep 4 (Prime-Tass) -- The user base of Russia's third largest mobile operator MegaFon reached 5 million subscribers in the Volga area as of September 2, the press office of MSS-Povolzhye said Monday. MSS-Povolzhye operates MegaFon's network in the Volga area.

As of mid-October 2005, MegaFon had 4 million subscribers in the area.

MegaFon launched its mobile services in the Volga area in November 2001. MegaFon?s network in the area currently covers 13 regions with a total population of about 26.4 million people, or more than 18% of the country?s population. These include the Astrakhan, Orenburg, Penza, Samara, Saratov, Ulyanovsk and Volgograd regions, Russia?s constituent republics of, Bashkortostan, Kalmykia, Mari El, Mordovia, and Tatarstan, and the Chuvash Republic.

As of July 31, MegaFon's total user base amounted to 26.787 million users.
