Huawei Technologies says that it has signed a contract with Saudi Arabia's Mobily for the construction of a UMTS network. According to the contract, Huawei will supply its New Generation Node B solution as part of Mobily's plan to deploy a UMTS terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) based on High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).
Mobily is owned by Etisalat of the United Arab Emirates. As one of Mobily's primary suppliers, Huawei strategically collaborates with Mobily not only in the field of 3G, but also GSM.
Mr. Jiading Wang, vice president of Huawei Middle East and North Africa, stated that, "Huawei is pleased to be the major supplier for Mobily's 3G Network and deploy a high quality network with strong performance. We are confident in our ability to continuously bring value to customers with innovative and leading 3G solutions."
Statistics from The Mobile World subscriber database reports that Mobily has an estimated 3.2 million subscribers, giving it a market share of just over 21%. "
