BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- China's production of mobile phones in the January to May period rose 66% from a year earlier to 173.91 million units, the Ministry of Information Industry said.
The MII's statement, posted on its Web site Friday, didn't give the total figure for mobile phone exports in the same period. It also didn't elaborate on the output rise.
In March, the MII said it is aiming for China to produce 340 million mobile phones, compared with 303.7 million last year.
China, the world's largest mobile-phone market by users, made 37% of the 825 million mobile phones produced worldwide last year, the ministry said at the time, citing data from market research firm IDC.
