Movistar Provides Coverage in Buenos Aires Subway

Mobile operator Movistar Argentina, a unit of Spain's Telefónica Móviles, has extended its GSM technology coverage to subway lines in capital Buenos Aires, the company said in a statement.

The GSM network will allow Movistar clients to use voice, data and image transmission on lines linking 53 of the most frequented stations and covering 30km.

The service will be offered on Line A from Plaza de Mayo to Primera Junta on Line B, from Leandro Alem to Federico Lacroze and Constitución to Retiro on Line C, and from Catedral to Congreso de Tucumán on Line D.

Movistar Argentina increased its client base by 8% in the first five months of 2006, reaching 9.1 million users, compared to 8.33 million at end the of 2005.
