Push Email for Singapore Operator

Singapore's SingTel has selected a Push Email platform from Consilient. The product, called SingTel MobileMail, will be formally launched in July, 2006. SingTel's agreement with Consilient marks the Asian debut of a consumer mobile email product that is based entirely on open standards, a key differentiator for SingTel in choosing Consilient. Open standards refer to the underlying architecture of SingTel's mobile email solution which makes it highly interoperable with multiple phones and email systems and capable of scaling to millions of users.

Consilient is a co-author of the new standard used in SingTel's product, which was designed specifically for mobile email. The standard is known as Push-IMAP (P-IMAP) but will be changed to Mobile EMail Enabler or MEM when it becomes a formal standard at the end of 2006. Consilient co-authored MEM with Sony Ericsson, China Mobile, LG Electronics and other industry leaders.

The use of open standards was a key requirement for SingTel in order to deploy a low cost mobile email solution that could scale to high user numbers.

Mr. Hui Weng Cheong, Vice President of Consumer Products, SingTel said, "As a customer-focused service provider, SingTel is pleased to deliver low-cost push email to our customers on their mobile phones to meet their diverse lifestyle needs. With MobileMail, our customers can cost-effectively access email on-the-go with their handsets. We selected Consilient's open standards P-IMAP system to provide this service as this solution offers scalability and interoperability that helps us better serve our customers."

SingTel will begin offering MobileMail on Nokia handsets, followed by Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Windows Mobile and Panasonic."
