Moldtelecom Applies for Moldova's 3G Mobile License

CHISINAU, June 19 (Prime-Tass) -- Moldova's national telecommunications operator Moldtelecom has applied for a CDMA2000 third generation (3G) mobile license, the company's General Director Georgiy Ursaki told reporters Monday.

Since December 2005, Moldtelecom has been constructing a fixed-line wireless CDMA2000 network using a 450MHz frequency range.

The government said last week that it planned to sell the 3G license in the CDMA standard using a 450MHz frequency range.

In May 2005, Moldova announced a tender for a 3G license, but it was suspended at the request of the General Prosecutor?s Office, due to alleged violations in the terms of the tender.

Moldova has two GSM mobile operators, Voxtel and Moldcell, and one CDMA operator Interdnestrcom.
